Tim,
I picked up your book and after a year decided to read some, don't ask me why it took so long, maybe I wanted to leave things to memory. In any case I read the first 30 pages and found myself a bit overwhelmed. Thank-You to you and Songhi; I'm not well versed in journalism but dam nice job. ANY ONE SERVING IN ASCOM SHOULD READ THIS BOOK. You sucked me in, I'm not sure how but the effect I think is because of a young man's compassion for a culture and the harsh realities of survival of both young men and the Korean people you seen struggling in a cruel unforgiving environment. I was assigned to A Co. 728th MP from 11/15/70 to about 4/71, culture shock. Would love to talk with ya some time I worked the vill and gates and the whole time I had no idea where the hell I was till I was transferred to Yongsan C Co. 728 and later to Inchon & Camp Carrol to finish up 13 months straight.
Tim,
Just finished your great book, I can't tell you how wonderful it is, how alive and excited it made me feel. I had to pinch my self, to be sure this was not a dream. I have always wanted to be able to explain the life we led in ASCOM and the village. It's really not possible to tell family about this experience (no one would believe it) without this story. You reveal all, with no holds barred. To me,
astounding how you incorporated all the details, race, sex, love, marriage, children, even visiting spouses, and shamans. Its all there, it all happened and you made it so vivid, so accessible to even to those who never had the opportunity.
I love it! It's just plain brilliant. I'm actually amazed it took me this long to find the book. Have you done book tour, or anything to promote it?
It is so carefully crafted, so clever in its slow build up of love, affection, and all the life questions that go with it. BRAVO, congratulations on telling so much of what went on in a completely unbelievable fantasy land.
Thank you. THANK YOU!

ROK Drop
review...
"The story is compelling, but the real reason why I recommend people should read this book is not for the story, but to get a better understanding of the conditions servicemembers serving in Korea during this timeframe experienced."
Korean Quarterly review...
"Seasons in the Kingdom stays with you long after the read is completed...Tim Norris has written a moving novel that weaves real life events and places with a memorably touching love story between a U.S. GI and a local Korean girl."
[Seasons in the Kingdom is] an unusually compelling and well-written story... extraordinarily beautiful and detailed "word paintings" of the land and its people form the background of this drama, rounding out this unforgettable book.
